  • Major accomplishments: built high-end hosting business for ANS, a division of AOL; integrated and expanded hosting organizations, products, and services from several different companies and cultures into one new organization after CompuServe, ANS, UUNET, and MCI were merged by WorldCom; initiated the process of "productizing" diverse web-based offerings; designed and built five new Data Centers in US and UK; developed and built a 7x24 network, system, and application monitoring and support organization; led the engineering and launch of complex integrated network-based services; developed and implemented the concept of cross-functional teams supporting strategic customers.
  • Led geographically dispersed organizations of technical and support professionals delivering global complex integration products, commercial web hosting, Virtual Private Dial Network components, and systems support of AOL dial network. Responsible for turning Marketing requests into documented and supportable products and delivering them on schedule. Responsible for developing and reviewing complex Marketing and Sales proposals to insure that bids were in line with product strategy and technical proficiency. Responsible for the "Web Desk" which provided outstanding support to hosting customers.

  • Directed resource and capacity planning processes for people, hardware (primarily Sun SPARCs and Ultras running Solaris), software, networks, security, and desktops. Responsible for synthesizing marketing and customer requirements to develop and implement budgets and resource allocation plans. Responsible to the CFO for the management of the capital budget.
  • Managed a team of technical professionals responsible for designing and supporting in-house production, custom development, and QA systems and networks. Products included Barron's Online, SmithBarney.com, Steinroe.com, Liberty.com, Wall Street Journal Interactive Briefing Books, Tradeline, and NewsAgent.

Director, International Operations Director, Interchange Operations

  • Major accomplishments: Built the production infrastructure necessary to launch and support the AT&T Interchange Online Network as a commercial service; while based in Luxembourg, designed the production infrastructure and European network architecture for Europe Online.
  • Architected and built the Operations management structure in the US and Europe. Developed scaleable staffing model and built initial staffs of technical managers and professionals in US and Europe.
  • Developed departmental policies and services. Defined and negotiated interdepartmental and inter-company interfaces and service level agreements. Identified and managed development, implementation, and documentation of operational processes, procedures, and systems needed to support the production service.
  • Directed resource and capacity planning processes for people, hardware (primarily DEC Alphas running VMS), software, networks, and security. Designed and implemented the production architecture for two international commercial online services. Specified technical product enhancements required to launch the service; negotiated schedules with Development. Developed and managed operating expense budget of $7 M and capital budget of $30 M.

  • Developed infrastructure for desktop strategy and support to improve workgroup productivity across all domestic and European Manufacturing divisions. Led cross-divisional team responsible for selecting and implementing a worldwide corporate Email standard. Led Manufacturing Excellence system implementation in support of division goal of achieving Class A MRPII. Customized and implemented finite capacity modeling and scheduling tools for Chemical Manufacturing Division.
  • Managed and led a team of senior systems analysts supporting VAXes, workstations, and corporate LANs. With no increase in staffing levels, accomplishments included: developing and implementing 7 x 24 support; measurably improving the quality of support provided to customers; and increasing the number of products supported in response to customer needs. Responsible for corporate systems capacity planning.
